Tips to Effectively Work with Interpreter
The
interpreters are there as a bridge to help you communicate effectively
your message as if you are speaking a common language with the audience
In order to facilitate this, please bear the following in mind when
addressing them:
- Pace: Speak at a steady pace i.e. not too fast, not too slow. If you are reading from a written document, remember that most people speak much faster when they are reading aloud. The interpreters will be able to convey your messages much more effectively if you speak at a natural pace.
- Written texts: If you are reading from a document, please send it to the interpreters in advance so they are able to familiarize themselves with its contents.
What is conference interpreting?
Conference interpreting deals
exclusively with oral communication: rendering a message from one
language into another, naturally and fluently, adopting the delivery,
tone and convictions of the speaker and speaking in the first person.
There are different kinds of interpreting:
Consecutive: interpreting after the speaker finished The interpreter sits with the delegates, listens to the speech and renders it, at the end, in a different language, generally with the aid of notes. In the modern world consecutive interpreting has been largely replaced by simultaneous, but it remains relevant for certain kinds of meetings (e.g. highly technical meetings, working lunches, small groups, field trips).
